Mauri is ancient, sacred and has a whakapapa unique to the integrity of each hapu and iwi.
[Our Youtube discussion]

In this instance, we seek to understand the mauri of a waterbody as an indicator of the health and wellbeing of the water, land and its people.

The Mauri Compass recognises and empowers the voice of Tangata Whenua and conveys their aspirations to restore the mauri of their waterways.

The Mauri Compass is a navigational tool consisting of 12 indicator / attributes that can measure change and direction of travel to assist (in this case) the KIWA Group and the Gisborne District Council.

This page provides you with a high-level overview of the breadth and depth of the indicators (or attributes) we use for the mauri of a particular waterbody.

The value for each of the 12 indicators (or attributes) are calculated using the questions below.  We acknowledge that exact numerical values can sometimes be difficult to arrive at which is why the 'comments and explanation' section is crucial for understanding the reasoning behind each answer.
